Bringing Holyport Together
Holyport Memorial Hall was built in 1954 and extended in 1985 with the sole aim of providing leisure and recreational facilities for the benefit of local people.
It is wholly owned by the village and run by the Holyport Community Trust. An elected management committee of volunteers is responsible for the upkeep and improvement of the hall, which is run on a non-profit-making basis. All monies raised go back into the hall for the benefit of the community, and improvements are constantly being made.
The hall is host to a wide range of activities, from yoga and pilates to badminton and children’s parties. HCT also run regular events including a monthly cinema club and quiz nights. (See What’s On page for the latest.)
Over the last couple of years, our small team has been incredibly busy carrying out some major improvements to the hall, including a refurbished floor and stage area, new boilers and a new smaller room at the back of the building with its own accessible loo, kitchenette, tables and chairs and projector and screen, which makes it ideal for meeting hires and for small-group activities.
We also installed a fantastic new children’s playground after a very intensive bout of fundraising. The Platinum Jubilee Playground features lots of inclusive equipment for children of all abilities, and with a soft surface for safer and more enjoyable play. We hope the playground will be a fitting and lasting tribute to HM Queen Elizabeth II.
We’ve recently organised a major refurbishment of the tennis court, which has become dual use with the inclusion of two pickleball courts, and have also installed new family-friendly outdoor seating and tables.
Our latest project has been to replace our very old and leaky windows with brand-new fully glazed ones. This should make a big difference to our heating bills, and make for a much nicer environment for users, especially in the winter!
